Inspired by Toe and Trey's somewhat less than excellent adventure yesterday in Everglades National Park, I decided to spend a full day today birding in the park. Conditions at dawn were overcast with occasional drizzle; it continued that way until about 11:00 AM, when the skies over Flamingo suddenly cleared. It remained sunny and warm the rest of the day.

While migrants remained in short supply, there were still plenty of birds to see, 79 in all. I spent most of my time in Flamingo, hiking part of the Coastal Prairie Trail and all of the Bear Lake Trail, and also birded around the visitor center and Eco Pond. I also birded (but not in this order) Royal Palm Hammock, Research Road, Long Pine Key, Mahogany Hammock, Paurotis, Nine Mile, Mrazek and Coot Bay Ponds, West Lake, and a short portion of Snake Bight Trail. Here's my list for the day:
