A Great Cormorant was seen this afternoon at the north end John U. Lloyd State park on Channel Marker 5 off the south jetties. It was conspicuous because of its large size which looked only slightly smaller than a Brown Pelican perched next to it and much larger than the Double-crested Cormorants sitting on the same marker. It appeared to be an adult and was black with a distinct white patch on the throat bordering the gular pouch but no white flank patches were visible from my tail-on view of the bird. It was first seen at about 3:35 PM and disappeared at about 3:50 PM while I was moving up for a closer view. John U. Lloyd State Park is just south of Port Everglades and can be reached going north from the east end of Dania Beach Boulevard.
