At Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park, the usual wintering birds are in place with some additions. Besides the usual Common Yellowthroats, Palm, Yellow-rumped and Prairie Warblers, there are 2 Magnolias, Orange-crowned, Northern Parula, American Redstart and Black-throated Green. The Blackpoll was last seen 12/11.
Also of interest: White-eyed and Blue-headed Vireos, Painted Buntings, Blue Grosbeak (female), Great Crested Flycatcher, and American Goldfinches. This morning a beautiful Western Kingbird was working the wires near the bike path restroom. The hummer and Yellow-breasted Chat are AWOL.
Hawks: Sharp-shinned, Cooper's (infrequent), Red-tailed, Broad-winged and dark morph Short-tailed (12/11).
Bizarre sighting: 2 Canada Geese flying SW --> NE at 8:30 AM on 12/11. Weird. [No geese of any sort are missing from Crandon Gardens.]
