Info On Banded Piping Plover Tigertail Beach

On Saturday, March 17th, I guided British birder Chris Coe to some of the better birding areas here in southwest Florida. Among the eight lifers (he'd been to Florida previously), Chris ended up getting Red-headed Woodpecker, Florida Scub-Jay, Limpkin, Crested Caracara, Wilson's Plover, Piping Plover among others. One of the Piping Plovers we found at Tigertail Beach on Marco Island (Collier County) was banded. Subsequent inquiries show that this bird was banded as an adult at the Gavins Point Dam area on the NE Nebraska/SE South Dakota border about five miles upriver from Yankton SD. Apparently, this particular bird has been at Tigertail Beach since last August 2006 so it remained there all winter. Cool. . . .
