Upon visiting Ft. Myers Beach I stopped at the lagoon at the Holiday Inn area,(the only one on the beach.) As many times as I have been to Ft. Myers Beach I have never seen the lagoon. I arrived in morning at low tide. I saw two adult American Oystercatchers. One allowed me within 20 ft. The bill and eye ring were a brilliant orange-red on this striking bird. Also present were two Reddish - Egrets of rich coloration. The bill near the eye started with lavender turning pink and ending with dark black. It's antics were a sight to behold. Also possibly saw a mottled duck. It had a yellow beak, but pink to red legs not orange as described in the bird book. Other more common egrets were seen also as well as an osprey. I visited J.N darling for a very short time. I saw many shore birds, many different kind. There was a flock of Willet at rest on a sand flat and about 2o White Pelicans. I saw a couple of Red Breasted Mergansers and maybe a greater/lesser Scaup. I did not see any Roseate Spoonbills but could have missed them i drove thru so quickly. I would say at least 200-300 plovers, willets and various sandpipers were present.
