Along with beachgoers, there was an influx of gulls today. All were enthusiastically bathing and preening so I assume that they just arrived. To the contrary, the humans were just loafing.
Herring Gulls = 115+, with ~90% first-year birds (wintering HERG usually ~20 birds, mostly adults)
Great Black-backed Gulls = 17 (wintering GBBG usually 4)
Lesser Black-backed Gulls = 25+ (wintering LBBG usually 9-11). Interestingly, 9 were "intermedius-type" in color. Although they can't strictly be called intermedius due to extreme overlap with graellsii, they were black rather than pewter gray. I find it fascinating that this group with specific coloration is traveling together. But then again, gulls are a mystery to me.
