As soon as I saw the post about the Bananaquit at the Driftwood Garden Center (5051 Tamiami Trail aka US Rte 41) in Naples, I rushed over there. I found the flowering agave (Century Plant) in the back on the left side of the garden center as you face the entrance. I watched it for over an hour and save for a lone Yellow-rumped Warbler, nothing came to it. I talked to a nurseryman there who said a few other birders were there looking for it a few hours earlier. They didn't find it either. The nurseryman was very enthusiastic but he didn't know anything about this bird nor did he know what it looked like. I showed him the picture in the field guide and he said he'd call me if he relocates it. No photos were taken of this bird as far as I am aware and save for the original discovery, it has not been seen since, I'm said to say. It would make a terrific addition to my Collier County Big Year! Hope springs eternal and is a thing with feathers to cobime a few aphorisms. . . .
