When I was there last week, the bird described by Paddy was pointed out to me by 2 of the volunteers who had been observing it enter and leave the small hole in the tree Paddy descibes. I observed the bird , which was identified to me as a brown headed nuthatch, and it certainly resembled the illustration in my bird guide. The only honking I heard however, was the other visitors blowing their noses in the 37 degree cold.
