I decided to check out Fairchild this morning. Very quiet , at least in terms of birds.I sat around the chinese hat plants for about half an hour and looked around...but no buff-bellied hummer to be seen ( I don't know if anyone has seen it this year?) One ruby throat was feasting off the firebushes in the butterfly garden and a Northern cardinal male was singing his heart out nearby. There were numerous yellow rumps around and in the trees, and I heard one red-bellied woodie.
No shortage of noisy school kids, though, maybe that was part of the problem!
