Saturday afternoon soaring low over my pine trees in Riverland, Broward: a Red-Shouldered Hawk with a red tag streaming out from the feet - a little longer than the tail feathers. What was this? A Great Horned Owl who called, just boomed, many nights during Christmas finally got a "call back" a few weeks ago and I ran outside at 4 AM to sight that there was indeed 2 owls flying off in the moonlight - sweet! Screech Owls are courting all night. An Eastern Phoebe is diving off the slide in the center of the swimming pool all winter, 7 times in a row at midday, to bathe. Hummingbirds are still here even on this cold rainy day, as well as Catbirds who never left, also Robins and Cedar Waxwings, stopping off in the pines and oaks. It was nice to see the Robins on the ground. Hoards of Yellow-Rumped Warblers the last 2 days, also mixing with the waxwings.
