The male (black-backed) Western Spindalis showed up again this morning at 9:15 in Bill Baggs Cape Florida SP. It perched in the bare branches of large Strangler Fig trees in the Youth Camp Area. It was vocalizing with loud, single "tseep" calls but would give 4 short chips when it flew from tree to tree. After 5 minutes it headed toward a large Sea Grape tree and remained silent.

I believe it's the same bird as I found February 9, as it's a brightly colored adult male. The poor guy can't seem to buy a tree with fruit on it and seems to be wandering a large area.

After entering the park, follow the sign for No Name Harbor and park. Walk back east; turn north (left) on the short gravel road. The camping area will be immediately to the east (right). The bird was audible and visible from the paved bike path.
