We were told that the American Wigeon were at Coot Bay Pond, but when we got there, all we saw were coots! We passed Nine Mile Pond without stopping. Oh well, there's only so much time in a day!

I've seen small flocks of wigeon on West Lake and at other locations in the southern Everglades. Flocks such as you describe have been seen only occasionally in recent years. In the past (see CBC data), flocks numbering in the thousands were not unusual.
