They usually appear in the mid-winter and leave by March and April. They are late breeders, often raising you in the late summer and fall. Their pattern seems to be they will be very uncommon or absent one winter, then common to abundant the next. The next year they might be once again absent or close to it. This is similar with robins, finches, and Yellow-rumped Warblers to some extent. Enjoy these birds, because when they leave we may not see them again until January or February of 2009!
