As I sit in the lounge of an Orlando tourist hotel after two+ days of massive trade show overload, I'd like to thank the many birders of Florida who contributed to a very successful three days of birding I enjoyed prior to the show. You know who you are and I won't forget these favors. I got a good but all-too-fleeting glimpse of the Western Spindalis (I knew it would show again as soon as I left and sounds like it did just that). I also got 11 other life birds on this trip. My only disappointment was the cancellation of the Dry Tortugas trip on Monday due to high winds. I'll be back some April for that one.

It's been a nice break from a hard winter on the High Plains, but y'all can keep the traffic and the rampant development. I stopped on Big Pine Key to check a pond described by Pranty, only to find a crew of workers with a giant shredder destroying the mangroves around the hammock. Insert Lorax parable here.

I can do a few prairie-chicken/longspur gigs in the spring for those passing through the southern plains in the spring. Can't always get away but sometimes it works out. If I can't get away I can steer you to those who can.

All the best to all of you.
