Well I have to admit Bill is right, I blew it on the bill. Mallard should be orangey black marbled on the hen. But so should the Mexican Duck (so at least I was right about one thing:) I got out Frank Todd's Book "Natural History of the Waterfowl" and in his book he has a picture of a pair of Mexican Ducks (P.g 289), and agian I was way off on the plumage of a Mexican duck, think I got confussed with Mellers Duck (African species). Mexican Ducks are more of an orangey brown coloration through out, black line through the head, white on the outer edges of the specullum and male has greenish bill and female has orange black marbled bill. The book also mentions that pure Mexican Ducks still occur in abundants in the Central and Southern Chihuahua.
So now back to our duck. My guess Mallard x Mottled Duck.
Have a good one,
