I spotted a mature Bald Eagle perched (Do bald eagles perch? Sounds a bit of a wussy thing for an eagle to do.)atop a dead tree. The tree was within 15 feet of the road so the view was unobstructed and clear. She (I assume a she only because of size.)was in the middle of being scolded by a grackle. The tree was located on 137th Ave. a few blocks north of the US Army Reserve Center. The area west of 137th is currently under construction. In fact, a noisy backhoe was working directly behind when I pulled over to check out the bird with my binoculars. The area in question is near the Something Penny Something Park on Eureka Dr. I drove back that way about three hours later - no eagle. I've always considered bald eagles to be retiring birds that avoid populated areas. Exciting.
