Decided to get up early and get some birding done this morning, and headed north towards Green Cay Wetlands. A Broad-winged Hawk, two Black-hooded Parakeets, and a flock of Cedar Waxwings were seen from the Turnpike on the way up.

Birds of interest at Green Cay-
Eared Grebe- easy find, as usual
Black-crowned Night-heron
Mottled Duck
Green-winged Teal
Blue-winged Teal
Lesser Scaup
Sora
Purple Gallinule
Limpkin
Lesser Yelowlegs
Forster's Tern
House Wren
American Robin
Palm Warbler
Yellow-rumped Warbler
Common Yellowthroat
Painted Bunting- male

I then headed down to the Pompano Beach/Coconut Creek area to do some exploring. I still believe it's rather underbirded and there is so much potential for good ducks and rare gulls.
I checked a couple lakes along Powerline Road in Pompano Beach and came up with a day birds:
Red-breasted Merganser- a nice male
Laughing Gull
Ring-billed Gull
Herring Gull- many
Lesser Black-backed Gull
Great Black-backed Gull

I also saw what I think was a Franklin's Gull, but it disappeared among a raft of Laughing. It was smaller and the bill seemed more petite.

I swung by Windmill Park in Coconut Creek, and came up with a few ducks-
Mottled Duck
Blue-winged Teal
Ring-necked Duck
Lesser Scaup
Ruddy Duck

There were also a couple Muscovy Ducks and some funky looking Mallards.

My year list is up to 159, if anyone is curious. I'm attempting a "Bigger Year", which is my goal to top my total from the previous years. I only have to beat my personal best of 261 from 2006. A year list of 300 or higher is only achievable if I do a winter Panhandle trip, so if anyone is heading up there for a weekend trip, you know who to call ;)
