No tricks. Just put the photo on your website. Then enter the URL in the "Optional Image URL" field.
The URL must point to a jpeg, png or gif file...no tiffs, raw files, scripts, etc.
If you use special characters in the URL, you must encode them. (it's mildly bad practice to use special characters because of this encoding issue). Don't forget that spaces are special characters that must always be encoded.
