Today I was at Okeeheelee Park in Central Palm Beach County at the feeders. There were about 20 mourning doves on the ground, eating seed, a few E.C. doves on nearby branches, a cardinal at the water dish, and two female painted buntings in the feeder, with a few squirells nearby. Everybody was minding their own business, enjoying their meal. Their was a serene vibe in the air. From out of nowhere comes a brown thrasher, Hacksaw Butch Reed style, the way he would clear out the ring with his 2x4. All of the birds flew away immediately as the thrasher "thrashed" on the ground, kicking up dirt and leaves. I've seen a Snail Kite get Snails, I've seen a Burrowing owl Burrow, but have never seen a Brown Thrasher "Thrash". Now all I need is to see a Laughing Gull "Laugh".
