I spent the entire day birding ENP and Lucky Hammock area.

I started a Flynn's and found no Scissor-tailed Flycatchers or Western Kingbirds. Went to Lucky Hammock and didn't see anything unusual it was much quieter than last week.

I headed into the park and birded Royal Palm and picked up a couple of year birds including a Dark Morph Short-tailed Hawk. Over all the area was fairly quiet, except for the many people on the trails taking photos.

I headed to Gate 15 and walked out to and around the large mound and only saw a few species. Brown and White Pelican, Red-breasted and Hooded Merganser, Coot, Pied-billed Grebe, Blue-wing Teal, Green-wing Teal, Shoveler, Osprey, Palm Warblers, a single Savannah Sparrow and a few herons and Egrets.

I then headed to Flamingo hoping for some good sparrows. When I arrived I ran into John Boyd. He had just walked part of the Coastal Prairie Trail and reported only seeing Savannahs. I was disappointed, but I'm glad I didn't spend the time walking the trail only to see Savannahs.

John and I walked around ECO Pond and found the Scaup, Blue-wing Teal, Green-winged Teal, Greater and Lesser Yellow-Legs, a few Killdeer, Palm Warblers and other expected occupants.

John headed back north and I think stopped at Luck Hammock and I looked for the Scissor-tailed Flycatchers and Western Kingbirds. Yeah, I finally found the birds and got a photo or two.

It was late enough that I looked decided to look for the Short-eared Owl in the prairie area to the north of the camp ground. While I waited for the sun to go down I look again for the Vermillion Flycatcher, but was unsuccessful.

While looking for the Owl, I saw one bird flying 20 ft over the Prairie, but it was too dark to ID the bird. I would guess that it was the Owl, but...

Long but a fun day.
