Paul et. al.,
I'm glad I was able to stimulate some lively discussion here. I just wanted to clarify that my question was about the status of Shrikes in the keys specifically. I have noticed in my little bit of birding on the mainland that they are quite common in suitable habitat.
I didn't notice any Shrikes in the keys until late September and I seem to be noticing more as fall turns to winter. We'll see what the CBC's get this year, maybe it's a banner year for LOSH, maybe they're slowly increasing, maybe the two counts down hear just miss the right spots.
We'll see,
Brennan
PS had an adult male Hooded Warbler in the yard today (wintering perhaps?) and actually found a roosting Screech-Owl.
