I stopped by the Scissor-tailed Flycatcher spot east of 217th Ave and 312th St. on the way home from Everglades NP today, and as has been the case every time I've checked this winter, there were no flycatchers. I decided to kick around for sparrows in the weedy ghost neighborhood south of 312th, and was glad I stayed. I was rewarded with splendid looks at a White-tailed Kite hunting over the "neighborhood". My, but they are lovely and mysterious creatures. This was at 4:00. I recommend driving the empty streets, as it stayed low a lot of the time.

Also around there were a lot of Cave Swallows, some Eastern Meadowlarks, a ton of Savannah Sparrows, some Kestrels, a Harrier, and a Sharpie. I guarantee someone will turn up an interesting sparrow or two there with a little effort. I failed, but I sensed their presence...
