Folks, 2006 came to an end and so did the CBC's. What do we have to look forward to at the start of 2007 as far as birding goes? The January South Dade Birding Trip that's what. Come join Toe, Trey, and me on this fantastic day trip to the places you always hear about. Toe is looking forward to a centennial day (that's birder talk for a day with a hundred species or more). Can you believe it would be his first, what a rookie! Anyway, first stops will include Flynn's, Lucky Hammock, and the Annex. We're also modifying this year's trip to include a bit more of Everglades Nat'l Park. Aside from birding the Coe Visitor Center, we would like to take the group over to bird Research Road and the Old Ingraham Highway. We will arrange to have those without passes to carpool with those who do to avoid the entrance fee.
Later stops may include Homestead Airport for Burrowing Owl, Schnebly's Winery for cowbirds and flycatchers, and Dump Marsh for waterfowl...the sky's the limit. Target birds include Emerald Toucanet, Great Curassow, and...oh wait, wrong list, I meant Bell's Vireo, Short-tailed Hawk, Scissor-tailed Flycatcher, and as many sparrow species as you can gather. Come join us and please help Toe achieve a centennial day. There is really no excuse (other than an emergancy) for not coming to this trip, see you there!
Remember, we meet at 7:00 AM sharp at the Burger King parking lot on US1, just after the turnpike ends, a little past 344th St. on the right.

Cheers,
RJ

P.S. Today is my birthday, so I expect a birthday bagel from someone tomorrow...it's an age-old tradition. Awh, never mind, just show up!
