Ruby-throated Hummingbird

All the talk about Hummingbirds made me think about Castellow Hammock and what may be there to see. I arrived about 4:30 pm and I only saw a 6 or 7 hummers and I believe all were Ruby Throated. I didn't see much else except for White-wing Doves, Red-winged Blackbirds, House Sparrows, a couple of Palm Warblers, one Yellow-rump and a Parula.

I headed over 217th Ave and 312th Street to look for Scissor-tailed Flycatchers, Western Kingbirds and Cowbirds. No luck with those, but I did see 15-20 Cave Swallows, 2 Northern Harriers, 2 Kestrel, 1 Merlin and I almost ran over a Red-tailed Hawk. It was on the ground just ahead of my van and I didn't see it until it flew right in front of me. I was driving slowly in the neighborhood with streets and no houses so I really wasn't going to hit the bird, but it surprised me. No photo, but I got a good look at the red tail it gets its name from. I forgot how big they are compared to our trash hawk, the Red-shouldered Hawk.
