I joined Sonny Bass, Stuart Pimm, Elsa Alvear and Mark Faherty for yesterday's Dry Tortugas National Park Christmas Bird Count. Several species new for the count were seen, including Red-footed Booby, Pomarine Jaeger, Short-eared Owl (Antillean race), Ruby-crowned Kinglet, American Pipit and Wilson's Warbler. A definite highlight was an aerial dogfight between the Short-eared Owl (which we flushed from Bush Key), a Peregrine Falcon and an American Kestrel.
