The following info was sent to me regarding a pair of Painted Buntings at a backyard feeder in South Miami on 10/10/02.

A male Painted Bunting was spotted in the morning on a backyard feeder at SW 58 Ave and SW 76 St in South Miami. The male fed on mixed bird seed for 12 minutes, and then was joined by a female for an additional 5 minutes.

"Both birds seemed very hungry and probably on their migration route. The male had a a deep-purple head, light green above and a deep red breast more vivid than any of the three bird book illustrations we have including Kenn Kaufman's digitally enhanced photos in his _Birds_ book."

"While the male Painted Bunting is so brightly colored, the female was also very beautiful, an attractive line green body that was light yellowish around the head. It was the first time we have seen Painted Buntings at our backyard bird feedr. It was quite a sight and we were both late to work, but it was worth it to see these magnificient Painted Buntings."
