I took advantage of my last opportunity to bird for 2006 and went to Black Point early this morning and wasn't disappointed.

I added one more Life bird to my list.

I saw a short chunky looking duck flying from north to south off the end of the jetty. It barely had a tail and a short bill. It was appeared dark all over except for a white patches on the inside trailing edge of the wing. I have seen scoters before and knew the shape was right. After describing the bird to Toe on the phone I was sure it was a White-winged Scoter.

Shortly after I saw about a dozen Lesser Scaup flying from north to south except they I had to look back toward mainland to see them. I am pretty sure they where Lesser Scaup and not Ring neck Ducks because of the habitat and the white on the wings was bright white.

I only saw on Red-breasted merganser and 3 pied-billed grebes to add to the list.

There was also an Osprey being chased by a Herring Gull who was trying to steel the Osprey's catch.

I saw a pair of bald eagles, one adult and an immature.

To end my list of interesting birds, I had a Dark Morph Broad-wing Hawk.

Life is good as Paul says. I took it a bit easier this year birding and still ended the year with 269 species. Unless I get luck this evening or tomorrow at work that is how my year will end.

Now I get to start all over again on January 1, 2007

Nice way to end the year.

Happy New Year to all!
