All:

Yesterday, we ran the Ft. Myers (FLFM) CBC sponsored by the the Caloosa Bird Club. Thirty-nine participants found a total of 19,182 birds in 114 species + 4 for Count Week (cw). I am the compiler for the circle. Considering that most of our circle is now developments/enclaves and gated communities or shopping malls, I find this to be a remarkable total. Highlights include the following species seen in no particular order:

One Yellow Warbler -- the first for our circle since 1978.
One male Baltimore Oriole (photographed) -- the first BAOR found in our circle in seven years.
Two Ruby-throated Hummingbirds
Two Painted Buntings (pair)
One Common Loon
4601 Fish Crows -- going to their evening roost.
Eleven species of ducks including two Northern Pintails, 16 Ring-necked Ducks, three American Wigeon and 19 Red-breasted Mergansers. Of the 180 Mallards counted, all but two were hybrids between Mallards and Mottled Ducks.
Four Great Crested Flycatchers
One Great Black-backed Gull
159 Herring Gulls (high number)
Two Sharp-shinned Hawks
Two Ruby-crowned Kinglets
77 Burrowing Owls (low number)
Three Eastern Screech-Owls (all gray phase)
357 Black Skimmers
84 Monk Parakeets (too many)
36 American White Pelicans
64 Western Sandpipers
87 Wood Storks
Eight Marbled Godwits
164 Loggerhead Shrikes
Four Sandwich Terns
Five Eastern Towhees
Three Black-and-white Warblers
16 Pine Warblers
Two Prairie Warblers
One Yellow-throated Warbler
Nine Piping Plovers
Two Wilson's Plovers
41 Semipalmated Plovers
Two Snowy Plovers (cw)
Five White-winged Doves (cw)
Five Horned Grebes (cw)
Two Magnificent Frigatebirds (cw)

I want to thank all of the participants for making this a great 107th CBC! Here's wishing everyone have Happy holidays and a great 2007!
