Ed: Waxwings tend to be very erratic in their appearances. I get flocks of about a hundred in fruiting trees near my house about three times each winter, but there is no predicting when. If they are nearby, you will often hear their rapid, high-pitched twittering, which is pretty noticeable within a few hundred feet. You can also see tight flocks careening ovehead sometimes and identify them by their rapid wingbeats and their rocking, indirect flight. Try Matheson Hammock in mid-winter.

: I know that some cedar waxwings (my favorite bird) come to South Florida during the winter, but does anyone know of the best time to see them, and where?
