Let me put it this way:
If the bird Georgiana saw was indeed a Lesser Antillean Flycatcher, a species endemic to the Lesser Antilles, people from all over the states would be flocking to FIU, in massive amounts, to see this bird. Only because this bird is endemic to...the Lesser Antilles.

Now, why can't we assume that the bird is a plain old, and beautiful, Eastern Phoebe. This would more than likely be a correct assumption. My point is, especially for beginning birders, that when attempting identifications of not-so-familiar species, one such first consider the more common ones keeping in mind, of course, that rare ones do occur (Eared Grebe for example). This will: (a) avoid unnecessary use of space in the birdboard and (b) prevent any serious birder from going into cardiac arrest WHILE making preparations to fly down to Florida and see such an INCREDIBLE rarity.
