I know this board focuses on local birds, but thought some of you might like to know what's flying around half a world away. On a purely business trip last week to Chennai (Madras), India, I saw the following birds in spare moments. This was in a highly urban area of nearly 20 million people, with a half-day excursion south to coastal Mamallapuram.

Coppersmith Barbet
Common Hoopoe
Green Bee-Eater
Rose-Ringed Parakeet
Laughing Dove
Rock Pigeon (of course)
Black Kite
Short-Toed Snake Eagle
Common Kestrel
Little Cormorant
Indian Pond Heron
Little Egret
Grey Heron
House Crow
Large-Billed Crow
Black Drongo
Common Myna
Hill Myna
Common Tailorbird
Yellow-Billed Babbler
Yellow Wagtail
Paddyfield Pipit
Scaly-Breasted Munia
