HI Susan-
On any given night, if you stay out long enough you will probably see a stray meteor or 2. And yes, they certainly do occur in the daytime, although we cannot see them.
Congrats on your exotic, they have these at the Aviary , so probably someone's escaped pet.

PS I you or anyone else is interested, Southern Cross Astronomical Society sets up telescopes at Sadowski on Saturday nights from 8until about 11 PM. ( Stars at night, birds in the day!)
