With all due respects, and desperately hoping to avoid any kind of public or private flaming, the previous statement is not true, at least as far as the FOS Field Observations Committee is concerned.
With a clear written description of the birds -- and Golden-crowned Kinglets are neither difficult to describe nor to identify -- neither John Boyd (regional compiler) nor I (state compiler) would reject the report of one or more Golden-crowned Kinglets south of Lake Okeechobee. Especially during fall 2006, which seems to be a fairly big invasion year for the species from Texas to Florida.
Now of course, photos are always wonderful to view, and they do "save" one the "task" of writing up details -- which normally takes only a few minutes anyway -- but as reiterated above, photos are not required for acceptance of Golden-crowned Kinglets south of Lake Okeechobee during an invasion year, provided that details are submitted.
