As Toe said, it is likely that they are one of the first four he mentioned (Ockham's Razor). Once you become familiar with the migratory patterns of birds in Florida, this will become clearer. Given the location of the birds, they may have been Cave Swallows roosting, a common sight.
Now, the trick is to determine if, given they are Cave, they are Mexican or Caribbean. We see the Mexican race throughout the winter in the Homestead/Florida City/Everglades area. The Caribbeans show up in the Cutler Ridge area in spring and stay through Summer, but...I believe Larry Manfredi has seen them roost in that area in January. Larry, any comments?

You can use your Sibley's (or other field guide) to distinguish between the two races.
