I apologize for not answering your first question; Do the sandhills migrate here? The answer is that few if any do. The migratory race (Tabita) that breeds in Canada and the northern United States doesn t winter in any numbers much south of the Orlando area and is rare south of Lake Okeechobee. The Sandhill Cranes seen in southeast Florida are almost entirely of the nonmigratory Florida race (Pratensis) that breeds in Central Florida and in scattered pockets into North Central and South Florida.
