Hey Everyone,
I've been way to busy to get out lately, and my weekend mornings are taken up by soccer practice. I have been keeping my eyes open though, of course.
Everyday at practice I see Cooper's Hawks, a Merlin, and Palm Warblers.
Yesterday morning I heard then saw my FOS Yellow-rumped Warblers flying south. Always cool to see them again.
Yesterday a friend of mine and I went looking for snakes out in rural Broward then wound up looking for them at Holeyland Road on the Broward/Palm Beach County line! Didn't find any live snakes, but I pointed out some birds to him. Eastern Phoebes and Palm Warblers were abundant out there, and a Purple Gallinule was seen at Sawgrass Recreation Area. I saw my FOS Tree Swallows as well. The most interesting sighting was a Barn Owl flying around a water control structure on US-27 near Holeyland at 3:00 in the afternoon. It's interesting that I barely ever saw Barn Owls until this year. I saw them in 2004 and 2005 at the famous spot in western Palm Beach County, but this year I have seen them at numerous other locations when not even looking for them (such as Chekika, rural Florida City, numerous locations in Palm Beach County, etc).
