I was out there today again, and it is a female Gadwall keeping company with the male American Wigeon. The white secondaries and yellow on the feet and sides of the bill let me know it wasn't a Wigeon. And don't you know I forgot to charge the batteries for my camera and ran out of power before getting a picture (shakes head at self).
