I am still trying for backyard hummers none seen yet . I planted chinese hat plants, fire bush, and pavonia last year and still waiting. regarding return of same birds year after year I think this is true because I get a single male painted bunting to my backyard feeder year after year x 4 yrs in a row . he comes several times a day . I havent seen the female this year which I have in past years. I have a problem with neighbors cats chasing the birds away and killing the doves . Any sugestions? I chase them every day. Anyone wanting to see many ruby throated hummers at once visit castellow park. They are in a small area right in front of the visitor center. They love the chinese hat plant there which is in full bloom. Also I saw one at Fairchild Tropical Garden yesterday also on the chinese hat plant. Also at Fairchild yesterday I saw two pileated woodpeckers in the top of the trees in the Rainforest area of the garden . What a treat!
