On our last day of scouting for the November, 2007 American Birding Association regional conference, ABA Field Trip Manager Darlene Smyth, Paul Bithorn and I visited Baptist Hospital, A. D. Barnes Park and Crandon Beach. In the neighborhood north of Baptist Hospital, Red-whiskered Bulbuls and both Spot-breasted and Baltimore Orioles were seen. At A. D. Barnes Park, two unexpected late migrants were seen: Red-eyed Vireo and Scarlet Tanager. Also seen were Ruby-throated Hummingbird, Yellow-throated and Blue-headed Vireo, Ruby-crowned Kinglet and eleven species of warblers: Northern Parula, Magnolia, Black-throated Blue, Yellow-rumped, Yellow-throated, Pine, Prairie, Palm, American Redstart, Ovenbird and Common Yellowthroat. At Crandon Beach, nine Lesser Black-backed Gulls were present. Also seen were Magnificent Frigatebird, Reddish Egret, Black-bellied, Wilson's, Semipalmated and Piping Plovers, Dunlin, Short-billed Dowitcher and both Royal and Caspian Terns. Sightings at the adjacent gardens included the resident American Crocodile as well as several species of exotic waterfowl, including Egyptian, Bar-headed, Barnacle and Hawaiian Geese (also known as Nene).

On behalf of Darlene, I'd like to thank everyone who assisted her with scouting for the conference, Including John Boyd and everyone who attended Saturday's field trip to Everglades National Park, John Hutchison, who on Sunday assisted us while scouting locations in Broward and Palm Beach Counties, Robin Diaz, who yesterday assisted Darlene in scouting Shark Valley and Big Cypress National Preserve, and of course the one and only Paul Bithorn, who assisted today.

The ABA Regional Conference will take place November 11-16, 2007 and will be based in Plantation, Broward County. For more information, see the ABA website at www.americanbirding.org
