I'm sorry to chime in so late, but I was in Jacksonville at a conference and didn't get back until tonight. The news hit me like a sledgehammer. I was standing in the salmarsh at Huegenot Park yesterday afternoon looking at Sharp-tailed Sparrows, and decided to call Trey and give him the news, Instead, I received the news that just broke my heart.

I didn't know Juan very well, since I've only jumped on the birding scene recently, but I've gotten to know what a wonderfull birder and person he was from his close friends. I must admit, I was a little envious of his number one quality. Not his ability to spot birds, although I know very well how he could spot birds others missed; not his incredible ear for birds, although no one would argue that; no, I mean he was the true gentleman birder, and all the previous posts can attest to that. His legacy will live on with all of us.

Bird on Juan, and thank you.
