I also managed to get down to see the Slaty-backed this morning. I guess I got there right after Jeff left. When I arrived the bird was to the west of the West Martello Tower. It later flew over to the light poles on the concrete pier to the east of the tower, prematurely putting an end to my chances for more quality photos.

Two other field marks: the bicolored bill, which is striking in the right light, and the characteristic "string of pearls" on the wing, which is somewhat worse for wear and molt, but still visible.

My guess is that the gull will be there for some time. Nonetheless, it's better not to take chances with such a bird. Get down there and see it now!
