I am deeply saddened by the passing of our good friend Juan Villamil. Although I knew of his state, through Paul Bithorn's posting, his passing caught me completely by surprise. I knew Juan for only a fraction of the time some of you did, but I was fortunate enough to bird with him quite a few times, even after his stroke. I believe I met Juan back in 2002, and was immediately intimidated by his birding skills. Soon enough, I felt comfortable around him. I was fortunate enough to co-lead a trip with him when Paul Bithorn needed me to and to join him, Paul, and Kevin Sarsfield on birding ventures. I wish I would've known him longer, I wish I would've birded with him more.
I know Juan is in a better place now. He's there with Jill, Dick, and Bob, and they're still birding. Only now their binoculars are pointing down instead of up. Dios to bendiga me hermano.
