While kayaking yesterday, I saw two Short Tailed Hawks (one light and one dark) cruising over the mangrove shore just south of the Wading Beach at Matheson Hammock, by the big tidal creek. An Osprey chased one of them, though I can't imagine what sort of rivalry he thought the ST represented. About a mile south of there, I encountered another dark phase Short Tail. There were lots of eagle rays around, as well as a small (3-ft) lemon shark.
Jammed up against the mangroves in this area was what appears to be a refuge raft. It was about 12-ft square, made of old 4X6s with big chunks of styrofoam tied to the bottom for flotation. If it was, Godspeed to you, brothers & sisters; hope you made it OK.
