Good evening,

As Maria posted, this species is known by a bewildering variety of names -- it even puts most parrots to shame!

But for the record, the official AOU (and thereby ABA) English name is the Nutmeg Mannikin, so ideally that's what we should use to avoid further confusion.

The eastern Sibley Guide also includes Nutmeg Mannikin, on page 416, as does the National Geographic "Complete Birds of North America," page 645. I'm uncomfortable with Sibley's choice of terminology in status ("small populations established in southeastern Florida since 1980s"), since most birders presume "countability" with establishment. Neither the AOU nor ABA recognize any _Lochura_ as a "countable" exotic in North America. (And there are also Nutmeg Mannikins in the Penacola area).

BTW, nice photos Trey. Your pix appear to be only the second instance of verifying Numeg Mannikins in Florida (the other was at Loxahatchee NWR in Jan 2004) -- and the first to document nesting.

Also, does a late October _nesting_ record seem strange to anybody else? (The only other reported -- not verifiably documented -- observations of Nutmeg Mannikin nesting in Florida were at Merritt Island 11 Jul 1964 and early Jun 1965).

Best regards,
