Went to Lucky Hammock late afternoon on 9-21-02. Saw a few Redstarts, Prairie Warblers, several Bobolinks, a flock of cattle egrets, a Chat and a Northern Harrier.

There was not much action so at 5:30, we drove towards the prison and in a field on the oposite side of the Hammock about a quarter of a mile down, we saw a Bald Eagle sitting in the field. It was intently watching 3 Sand Hill Cranes who were paying no attention to the Eagle.

Also, at the edge of the field, we saw a Red Shoulder Hawk sitting in the field and eating its prey (couldn't make out what it was). The Eagle seemed annoyed at our presence and flew off. It was a surpising find. Hadn't seen a Bald Eagle in the area (only in Flamingo last year) and have never seen the Sand Hill Cranes this far South.
