Please pardon my beginner ignorance. There is a male red winged black bird who comes to my feeders each day. His feet look like he has elephantitis. They are huge and swollen and very bumpy looking. Each day they are better. He seems fine, has a lovely little lady friend, who doesn't seem to mind. What is this? How did he get it? Is it contagious? On the same feeders I now have three pairs of Painted Buntings up from my single male on Oct 2nd.
