Greetings TAS
Report on suspected sighting of FEMALE Cuban Emerald. Just now got to a computer.
This bird was on a wire just feet away from a ruby=throated hummingbird. At first glance, the size difference was immediately obvious. I thought it was a female Magnificent hummingbird - but I'm not in Arizona anymore!
2nd point - all light colored breast - no markings.
3rd point - forked tail, narrow white strip at the edge of the tail
4th point - bill size equidistant to head size + about 1/3.
Seen from approximately 20 feet away.
We used the 98th street entrance, then the very first parking section. The wire above the 'fence' on the east side of the parking lot was where it was seen.
Using all the Florida books at our disposal, I did see it both listed and having a tick box as an accidental here in Florida. So my deductions were merely - "hmmmmmm.... can't be a Magnificent, ergo possibly a Cuban." Which I have seen a few years ago in the Caribbean. But I am a visitor to your state and by no means am I going to fly in and call this one 100%.
Good birding,
Donna
