Hi Bill- Actually about 2 years ago, I was in the backyard grilling and had 2 ( what I think were) black chinned at my feeders - it was dusk and I was shocked as well. Then, last year about 6:30 every morning I had a ruby throated for about 2 months. Go figure, and yes, there were definitely hummers and not moths!.
I am still waiting for ( any) hummer in my backyard this year.
