Yesterday afternoon I was sitting in a friend's garden just south of Davie Blvd in South Fort Lauderdale when I saw a pair of birds I could not identify. They were about 9 inches in length and had a bring orange/golden head with a black "bib" under their head and predominantly black wings. (The frame of the bords was similar to that of a small blackbird.) In spite of there being bird seed available they separately flew into bushes with flowers and eat either the nectar from inside the blloms or presumably grubs that were there. The 'partner' meanwhile seemed almost to keep watch from 15-20 yards away.. Then they swapped.. Does anyone have any idea what these birds were... I have never seen them before.. Having said that where i live has far less foliage and fewer trees than the area surrounding my friend's house...
