The first bird that kick off the Saturday morning (10/7/06, Tropical Audubon Bird Walk at Greynolds Park , was a MISSISSIPPI KITE (immature). Wow! The bird put on a great show for us in flight and perched high in a Casarina tree where the group got to study the bird through a scope. This is a first known record for this bird in Greynolds Park and a lifer for many of the birders in the group. Could it get better than this? Well, the park was pretty active for most of the morning highlighted by a good look at a Yellow-breasted Chat (2 total), a male Hooded Warbler put on a good show for us; a Blue-winged Warbler was observed on the east side of the rookery trail and Painted Buntings (males) were observed at two locations in park. A total of 47 species (12 species of warblers, 3 vireo species) were observed. Two visitors on the walk from Canada will leave Miami happy today with at least six life species added to their list. Thanks to all who came out for a perfect morning of good birding.
